Youngsters’ tastes develop during their early years. Introducing them to fruit & veg at a young age greatly makes it much more likely that fruit and veg will be an integral part of their diet for life. Remember our motto? “Get kids on the healthy eating track for life!”
That’s right! Our snacks are made mainly from fruit and vegetables, making them a natural alternative to all those unhealthy treats on the market. We help little people – and sometimes big people too – to get a taste for more fruit and veg. And we show them how healthy food can be transformed into lots of delicious snack creations.
Our top priority is to guarantee the best possible quality. That’s why we do frequent, rigorous testing. First the raw goods and then the processed products in the factory are tested for any potential residues. Then comes a third check of the finished product that’s carried out in an independent laboratory. Our organic controller is DE-Öko-037. If you’d still like to make a complaint, please use our contact form at the foot of the website!
We’ll tell you exactly how all our snacks are produced. Here’s a brief explanation of how each snack is brought to life..
Crunchy fruit & veg chips
These fruit and vegetables have been freeze-dried to preserve their nutrients, natural colour and original taste. That’s not the case with other drying methods. This drying method was previously used to make food for astronauts. Thanks to us, little earthlings can now also benefit from the same technique - and munch on nutritious treats to their hearts’ content. Freeze-drying involves moisture being removed from fruit and vegetables inside a vacuum. A temperature change immediately transforms them from solid to aerated. That’s what makes the fruit so crispy and crunchy. After saying “goodbye moisture” the dried fruit are popped into re-sealable packs. Now there’s nothing stopping you from enjoying healthy nibbles with a long shelf life. Give them a try!
Snacks to squeeze
They’re shaken, not stirred - and they have a longer shelf life! It’s all thanks to pasteurisation. The fruit and veg are pureed and then briefly heated to a high temperature. A small squeeze of lemon means no artificial preservatives are needed. Then the finished mixture is quickly poured into a pouch that’s sealed so it’s airtight. The unopened puree stays fresh and tasty for 12 months. Once opened, it should be consumed within 24 hours. Snack on all our fantastic flavours!
Fruit and yoghurt snacks to squeeze
We’ve been pureed, mixed with organic natural yoghurt and then pasteurised. That basically entails the whole mixture being briefly heated to a high temperature. Yes, it even works for yoghurt! It means the yoghurt doesn’t have to be kept in the fridge. So you can take our practical 40% yoghurt squeezy pouches with you everywhere. No spoon required!
Fruit and vegetable waffles
Do you know how to make waffle batter at home? That’s pretty much what we do for our little waffles. We also take special care to use healthy ingredients, lots of fruit and vegetables and very little salt.. All the ingredients go into a bowl to be stirred around. Then the batter goes onto a waffle iron that gives the little snacks their distinctive shape. That’s all there is to making a wonderfully healthy snack! It may sound easy but we were the first in Germany to do it. You simply have to try them!
Raisins in a mini snack box
Yummy raisins teamed with dried apricots. The beauty of this snack is its size rather than the way it’s made. We’ve filled these handy little boxes with ideal portions of raisins and apricots for youngsters to eat between meals. The raisins’ pack size is an absolute first in Germany and they taste simply divine. Rosie Raisin and Anna Apricot have got it just right.
Freche Freunde in Water
Lots of natural still mineral water combined with organic fruit concentrate makes drinking more fun! In fact, that’s all we put in our 200ml Tetra packs. Cheers!
Our cute Puffs are - you’ve guessed it – puffed! They’re not drenched in oil but they’re still lovely and crunchy and nice and crinkly! And we add a large pinch of carrot powder to make the snacks taste Googly great. The Crunchy Slices are made in a similar way. The dough is puffed into shape without being fried. They’re softer than adults’ crackers, meaning even toddlers can crunch on them.
Their long-lasting freshness is due to our production method (see above). This makes them ideal for taking out and about – and they’re a perfect for you to keep in your handbag, pram or car as a back-up snack. Pasteurisation and a dash of lemon or freeze-drying make it possible. It means our snacks can be kept for nine to 12 months unopened.
We’re for those times when you don’t have fresh fruit and vegetables at hand. What’s more, we playfully encourage children to eat and get to know more fruit and veg. Our mission is to encourage more fruit and veg in general, as early as possible. As we like to say: “Get kids on the healthy eating track for life!”
Nothing sneaks its way into our products!
We use a little splash of concentrate (less than 1% lemon juice concentrate) in our squeezy snacks to make the fruit and veg less liquid (max. amount of concentrate is 4%). Adding lemon also creates a pH level that ensures we don’t need preservatives to make the products last longer.
We care about and think about the environment!
Calling a product and its packaging ‘eco-friendly’ involves many important factors. These include transport (CO2 footprint = its total carbon dioxide emissions) and the relationship between the product’s content and packaging. Both these things are often difficult to assess.
1. Our extremely light, thin packaging means..
Significantly lower transport volumes compared to transporting empty containers, such as glass. Just one lorry can be used to transport empty packaging compared to the 15 lorries needed for the same amount of glass. So our CO2 footprint is much smaller.
2. Lots on the inside, little on the outside..
Different packaging materials provide varying space for content. Lots of snacks have relatively big packaging with an excessive amount of space inside for the actual content. Unfortunately, that means those snacks use a large amount of materials. We do things differently. We have a lot of content in relation to our packaging. It’s another factor that positively influences our CO2 footprint. It would be another story if our snacks were packaged in glass or plastic.
You don’t like lots of aluminium? Neither do we!
We can’t avoid using a little bit of aluminium to guarantee that our squeezy snacks and dried fruit stay fresh and long lasting. But we only need a tiny bit. Just one fifth of the aluminium content found in a standard jam jar lid is incorporated into a squeezy pouch’s packaging. That’s very little. And the most important thing is: the aluminium never comes into contact with the food itself! So don’t worry. Happy squeezing!
We wanted something good to eat on the go!
But what was on the market when family daily life left no time for washing and slicing fruit and veg? Or when little ones made their usual “yuck” face at the sight of anything healthy? Lots of rubbish, unfortunately! So Natacha and Alex founded Freche Freunde in 2010. Since then, they’ve been coming up with lots of healthy new snacks and ideas to help kids make friends with fruit and veg - and make their parents’ lives easier. Their young son Dylan is their biggest inspiration.
